Honeybee Awareness

Bees are in the news!  Search “bees” online and you’ll see headlines and cover stories about the critical importance of these hardworking little pollinators.  You’ll also read about the worrisome decline in honey bee and native bee numbers due to pesticides, habitat loss, disease, mites and more. Thankfully people in the know are speaking up and taking action on this vitally important topic, specifically groups like the United States Enviornmental Protection Agency, European Union, and United Nations.  Read on to see how YOU can make a difference too.

Here in Minnesota, where our products are made, we’re lucky to have the University of Minnesota Bee Lab just a few miles up the road, and this happens to be one of the foremost bee research centers in the entire world, promoting the health of bee pollinators. In fact, with the help of their knowledgeable Bee Squad, a hive of bees will be taking up permanent residence in our Nordic Ware Community Garden this May!

While we eagerly await their arrival, we’re excited to share a sweet idea with you. We’ve been making bee themed pans for a while to spread the love of bees and inspire honey themed creations, like our Honeycomb Pull Apart Pan, Beehive Cake Pan and our new Beehive Cakelets, but with all the recent media buzz about bees, our just-released Honey Bee Cookie Stamps are a huge hit!

Here’s how it works: WATCH THE HONEYBEE COOKIE STAMPS VIDEO, ” LIKE” IT ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL, AND WE’LL DONATE $0.25 PER LIKE TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA BEE LAB ON YOUR BEHALF(up to $2,000). It’s as simple as that!  We’re hoping for a swarm of likes!

Our April Bee Campaign and donations are now closed. Thank you watching and supporting the bees!

We need bees and bees need us! Here’s a sampling of foods that would no longer be available to us if bees ceased pollinating our agricultural crops: broccoli, asparagus, cantaloupes, cucumbers, pumpkins, blueberries, watermelons, almonds, apples, cranberries, and cherries. Imagine a world without flowers, without these foods, and without honey! These humble bugs deserve a HUGE THANKS for helping provide us with our favorite fruits and vegetables, delicious honey, and beautiful, flower-filled landscapes! Thank you for supporting the University of Minnesota Bee Lab
