Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground all spice
- 1/ 4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup dark molasses
- 2 large eggs
Directions
Preheat to 350° F. Prep pan with baking spray containing flour. Combine flour, soda, salt and spices. Set aside. In a separate small bowl, combine buttermilk and vanilla. In mixer bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Beat in molasses and add eggs one at a time. Beat until well mixed. Add 1/3 of dry flour mixture, then 1/2 of the buttermilk mixture. Repeat this step, adding 1/3 of flour mixture and the second 1/2 of the buttermilk. Finally add the last of the flour and mix until smooth. Pour into prepared pan. Gently tap pan on counter to remove air bubbles. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes and then turn out onto rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired.
