This simple and versatile classic waffle recipe will be your go-to! Quick and easy to make in our handy stovetop Belgian Waffler. Make it sweet or savory with your favorite toppings for a tasty brunch.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/ 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/ 2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • Topping options: fresh fruit, maple syrup, butter, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and more!

Directions

Beat egg yolks until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and butter, mixing until combined. In separate bowl, mix together flour and salt. Add to egg mixture, alternating with milk, until well combined. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter.

Preheat Waffler on medium heat for two minutes on each side or preheat the two halves separately. Lightly spray with baking spray or brush with melted butter. Pour about 1 cup of batter into waffler and cook for about 1 minute. Flip waffler and cook for another 2 minutes or until golden brown. Carefully remove with spatula or flip out onto a plate. Add more baking spray and butter if needed and repeat with remaining batter. Serve with your favorite toppings. Makes 3 full sized waffles, 4 squares each.

This is going to be exciting. Came across this waffle iron and said. There’s no plug . How you going to cook with this. Thank you for the internet. Making my first batch now. Thank you.

This is the best basic waffle recipe and consistently works well and the one I rely on for using in my wonderful Nordicware Belgian waffle iron. Using a stove-top waffle iron is fun.

Had a bit of trouble using the waffle maker on my own. But once I followed the recipe and instructions, i now make the best waffles.

Good recipe. Recommend doubling or even tripling the amounts of your family are serious waffle eaters. Also, use 1 cup of batter or more in the iron if you want to fill the whole thing.

My Nordic Ware waffle iron was purchased in the early 1980s. It features a temperature gauge, which I love and rely on. This waffle iron moved all over the world with me while I lived the life of an expat. No need to worry about world electrical differences. I have used several different Belgian waffle recipes and this one here is in my top 3. Thank you for publishing recipes that work and taste good.

Best waffle recipe, delicious! No baking soda, no sugar. I switch around and sometimes use nut milk and usually use whole wheat flour and even sometimes use freshly ground whole wheat flour. Always turns out. I am pinning this do I do not lose it. I did have it taped inside my cupboard inside door until we remodeled. I use fresh eggs from my chickens which no doubt helps with the light fluffiness of the waffle and today used fresh raw milk as well. Very old time recipe.

I’ve used this recipe for over 35 years–our family first had a Nordicware Beligian waffler when I was a teenager in the 1970’s. FABULOUS, FABULOUS recipe!! You won’t find a better waffle anywhere! Just make sure you don’t deflate the egg whites by thinking you have to mix them in until everything is smooth. You DON’T want to have everything smooth–or you’ll have a tough waffle. Mix only until the egg whites are barely incorporated–and can still have large fluffly lumps of egg white ‘icebergs’–so to speak. They freeze well and can be reheated in the oven so you have a nice, dry texture on the outside of the waffle (instead of that microwave steamy, everything wet texture). This recipe will become one of your family’s favorites, guaranteed!
