Company Background

Nordic Ware Creators of an American Icon, The Family-Owned Minnesota Business has Evolved Well Beyond Its Bundt Beginnings

Nordic Ware products have become a central icon in many American kitchens. In fact, every 4.5 seconds a Nordic Ware product is purchased somewhere in the world. Nearly 60 million Bundt® pans are in use, and the number continues to grow with an extensive new line of Bundt® shapes added in recent years.

Today, Bundt pans can be found nearly everywhere, from the kitchens of bakers around the world to the silver screen as the quintessential American hostess gift in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Over 40 new creative Bundt Pan shapes have been created in the last five years alone â?? a testament to the quality of the product and its manufacturer, Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Nordic Ware.

Founded by H. David and Dorothy Dalquist in 1946, Nordic Ware remains family-owned and dedicated to providing outstanding customer service and support for their great innovative kitchenware products. Nordic Ware's commitment to inventing and re-inventing its line of American-made cookware, bakeware, microwave and barbeque products is paralleled only by the company's commitment to the community, its customers and employees and maintaining its "family" atmosphere. The company recognizes customer satisfaction with its quality products is the basis for continued success, and as a result, Nordic Ware enjoys enormous customer loyalty. The company has stood the test of time from its inception in 1946, to its recent transition from middle class marvel to gourmet comfort food status. Nordic Ware has grown 50 percent in sales volume in the past five years.

During the late 1990s, the company made a well considered decision to swim upstream against the popular trend at that time â?? which was to focus distribution on the big box national retail chains â?? and redirected marketing efforts toward the thousands of independent owner operated gourmet kitchenware stores across America. This largely overlooked segment of retailing required a more upscale approach to their product design and marketing programs. They have learned from this decision that in the marketplace struggle between price and quality, quality wins every time.

The complete Nordic Ware product line includes over 350 items and two out of three American households own and use Nordic Ware products. While Nordic Ware products are distributed in major countries worldwide, the company prides itself on its American-made promise. Its made-in-America status caters to consumers who trust and prefer products made in the US â?? Nordic Ware's largest market â?? while providing retailers with just-in-time product replenishment.

While Nordic Ware may be best known for their Bundt pans their complete line of everyday cookware, ovenware, bakeware, barbecue cookware and specialty kitchenware is well respected in their industry. A pioneer in microwave cookware beginning in the 1980s, Nordic Ware introduced the patented Micro-Go-Round food rotator and revolutionized microwave cooking. Nordic Ware expanded its product line to include over 50 microwave accessories.

Although the company's first products were ethnic bakeware products such as the Rosette Iron, Ebleskiver Pan and Krumkake Iron, Nordic Ware is best known for its Bundt® Pan, it was after a large bake off in 1966 where the winning recipe, the Tunnel of Fudge cake, was baked in a Bundt Pan, that the popularity of the Bundt Pan among the general public skyrocketed.

Nordic Ware began manufacturing pans round the clock, seven days a week â?? and still the demand could not be met. The fact that the finished Bundt® cake was easy to make, had a majestic appearance and required limited skills or effort gave it broad appeal. It could be easily cut into 24 even servings and its appearance was impressive, which made it ideal for entertaining. With all of these attributes, and the introduction of Pillsbury's Bundt® Cake Mixes, the pan soon became a must for every home and Bundt® became a household word.

In addition to consumer kitchenware products, the Nordic Ware® Industrial Coatings Division is one of the country's most respected non-stick coating applicators. Its extensive finishing technology and history of quality, innovation and consistency in this highly technical and specialized area makes them a true leader in the industrial coatings industry.

Nordic Ware has also garnered tremendous respect for its dedication to employees and their safety as well as the community. The company has received numerous awards of recognition for environmental efforts and safety programs, such as the Governor's Safety Award for Achievement in Workplace Safety from the Minnesota Safety Council. Nordic Ware also has an ongoing partnership with local high schools to provide training and on the job experience for people with disabilities.

Nordic Ware's drive toward innovation, exceptional product quality and appreciation for the people who continue to maintain the company standards have set Nordic Ware apart from its competitors. From its' humble Bundt pan beginnings to its continued success and growth today, Nordic Ware is firmly embedded into our culture, boasting 60 years of American made traditions.
