Light the Candles on the Bundt Cake... Announcing the 60th Anniversary of Nordic Ware
Year long Celebration Will Feature the Declaration of National Bundt Day on November 15, National and Local Contest and the Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Bundt Pan
January 22, 2006 (Minneapolis, MN) – If there is a kitchen in the home, more often than not there is a Bundt pan or Nordic Ware product to be found -- in two out of three American households to be exact. This year, the originators of the iconic Bundt Pan, are celebrating their 60th Anniversary Year, replete with the designation of November 15 as "National Bundt Day," the symbolic kick-off to the holiday baking season. Eighty-five percent of Americans say baking helps put them in the holiday spirit.
"Today, there are nearly 60 million Bundt pans in kitchens across the continent," says David Dalquist, President of Nordic Ware, and son of the company's co-founders. "Almost a Bundt pan in every pantry." Spanning from kitchen to gourmet with feature treatment in both "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and the recent double-page spread in "The New York Times Magazine", the cultural embrace of The Bundt is now seen as a uniquely American phenomenon.
In honor of the anniversary and because of the massive popularity of the Bundt pan, Nordic Ware has designated November 15 as the first-ever National Bundt Day. A yearlong celebration leading up to the day has been planned. National Bundt Day will signify the time just before the Thanksgiving holiday in which most of the baking that occurs for the year begins. Consumers will be reminded to get their kitchens ready for the holiday baking season by making sure they have their recipes lined up and most importantly, the proper tools to create their finest culinary delights, as well as the inspiration necessary to make it a social and family experience. Not only will we pay homage to an iconic piece of American culture that often was first baking experience for many, but we will collectively demonstrate that we know our way around the kitchen once again – no matter how busy, how old or how foreign an experience it may seem to be.
Oh, and did we mention there will be cake? Here are some of the other highlights of the 60th Anniversary and National Bundt Day celebration:
* January will mark the first official sneak-peek of the Limited Edition Anniversary Bundt Pan, a close replica of their first cast aluminum pan. The Anniversary Pan will accommodate today's 10 cup recipes as well as 12-15 cup recipes from years past because of the pan's extra tall sides and added capacity. Nordic Ware even brought back the original side handles for easy lifting in and out of the oven and added a modern non-stick coating so the cakes release perfectly from the pan every time…and it’s made in America, just like always.
* Nordic Ware will launch a nationwide contest calling for Bundt creations that not only reflect the essence of the Bundt cake, but also captures the essence of the geographical region in which the entry originated. This will reflect how the Bundt has been integrated into the lives of generations across the country. The winner will be chosen from a group of finalists and announced on National Bundt Day and awarded a handsome prize package. Runners-up will also receive a special Bundt Package.
* A special website destination will be established for National Bundt Day at http://www.nordicware.com/anniversary/bundt-day.
