Mom Approves! - Baker’s tribute to Mother’s Day TAKES THE CAKE and wins Nordic Ware’s Bundts® Across America Grand Prize: $10,000!!

MINNEAPOLIS (November 15, 2008) — Today, Andria Gaskin from Matthews, NC captured the $10,000 grand prize for the “Bundts Across America” baking contest sponsored by Nordic Ware, creator of the Bundt pan. This year’s contest theme was “Holiday Bundts, a pan for all seasons” and Andria created an original recipe that is absolutely berrylemonicious! Her recipe is titled: “White Chocolate Lemoncello Cake With Fresh Berries and Mascarpone Cream,”

“I was so thrilled to find out I won!” says Gaskin. The inspiration for her recipe came from the movie Under the Tuscan Sun. “There’s a scene in the movie where they’re drinking lemoncello, which is Italian liquor. I decided to work that into the recipe along with other Italian flavors like mascarpone.” Andria says the $10,000 prize money comes at a good time. She plans to put a good portion of it in savings. The rest will go towards her children’s Christmas gifts and a trip for her 40th birthday. “My girlfriends and I are planning to go to Italy. So, this will help with my deposit on the trip.” Gaskin adds.

“This lemon cake is a true classic,” says contest judge Francois Carrara, Bakeware Buyer at Williams Sonoma. “Its flavor is unmistakable, simple and delicate, a perfect match for the timeless shape of the Anniversary Bundt pan. The cake's lemon flavor is strong without being overwhelming. Its texture is soft and delicate, but still moist as can be. The lemon whipped cream is a perfect accompaniment. Pure perfection. This cake is a new favorite of mine. Expect your guests to ask for the recipe.”

“I've tasted many lemon Bundt cakes in my lifetime but none as good as this!” David Dalquist, President of Nordic Ware comments. “The lemoncello added just the right intensity of natural lemon flavor, and the melted white chocolate in the cake batter resulted in a particularly dense, smooth texture in the end product."

The Recipe
Andria Gaskin originally made her winning recipe, “White Chocolate Lemoncello Cake With Fresh Berries and Mascarpone Cream,” for a Mother’s Day Tea for five mom-friends. While planning their trip to Italy in two years, the women often fanaticized about shopping the farmer’s markets in Florence wearing sundresses, scarves and big sunglasses! Looks like the girls have another reason to celebrate now!!

National Bundt Day
Nordic Ware, creator of the iconic Bundt Pan, is celebrating National Bundt Day on Saturday, November 15. This third annual celebration signifies the time just before the Thanksgiving holiday in which most of the baking that occurs for the year begins. Consumers will be reminded to get their kitchens ready for the holiday baking season by making sure they have their recipes lined up and most importantly, the proper tools to create their finest culinary delights, as well as the inspiration necessary to make it a social and family experience.
