History of Bundt® Cake Mixes

Nordic Ware originally licensed Pillsbury in the early 1970s to use the Bundt® trademark on their unique cake mixes specifically created for Nordic Ware's Bundt® pan. While the cake mixes were a phenomenal success, the popularity of these cake mixes began to fade during the 1980's as interest in "scratch" baking began to rise, and along came an appliance called the microwave oven which had boasted the ability to conveniently cook and bake just about anything.

In the mid 1990s, consumers realized that the boom of microwave ovens may have produced convenient meals, but it simply did not bake cakes with success. Consumers began looking for easy, gourmet quality mixes. Nordic Ware answered the call of the consumers who were looking for the infamous Bundt® cake mixes, but could no longer be found anywhere.
